We would all likely agree that the world revolves around a paycheck. Almost all of the people who visit us are seeking financial assistance in one form or another. Many have found themselves in a financial fix for which they have little or no control. Layoffs, illnesses causing short term disability, work related injuries causing long term layoffs, and the obvious problem of aging are all issues we have to deal with when people come for help. We try to be sensitive to each problem but we do operate within a budget that sometimes hinders us from doing everything we would like to do. Sometimes all we can do is provide food or clothing, and of course a willingness to listen and an offer of prayer.
In 2010 the funds our church used in helping the people of Denton totaled $77,940. This came in the form of food, assistance with rent and mortgages, prescription medications, gasoline, and family emergency assistance. Some 3,689 families were ministered to this past year as we take to heart the words of Jesus Christ when He said in Matthew 25:35-40 (NIV):
“Lord when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you? The King will then reply, I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”
Our mission is to provide help to those in need, provide a listening ear to those that need a friend, and to do it all to the glory of God. I would like to commend you for your faithful support of the benevolence ministry and say thank you. It is my prayer we can continue to be a blessing to those in need. I hope this will encourage you in this coming year as we strive to serve and make a difference in this community.
