I raise a hallelujah, in the presence of my enemies
I raise a hallelujah, louder than the unbelief
I raise a hallelujah, my weapon is a melody
I raise a hallelujah, heaven comes to fight for meI’m gonna sing, in the middle of the storm
Louder and louder, you’re gonna hear my praises roar
Up from the ashes, hope will arise
Death is defeated, the King is alive!

According to my wife, it’s a guy thing. I’ll be standing in front of the pantry asking her “are we out of Nutella already?” She’ll reply, “No, it’s right there in the pantry, middle shelf”. “No it’s not” I reply. She then makes her frustrated way to the pantry, grabs the jar of Nutella that was literally right in front of me and places it firmly in my hand as her eyes roll. It was right there in front of me, but somehow I didn’t see it. Sound familiar to you?
Have you ever missed someone so much that it hurts? A few weeks ago Jazmin and the girls went to visit the family in Costa Rica. And I haven’t stopped missing them from the moment I left the airport the day they traveled. Many times I’ve had the opportunity to travel to attend conferences, retreats and other activities for several days away from home. And although I missed my family at that time, being involved in the activity my mind was distracted and the absence looked less. Many times my wife told me how much they missed me at home. For the absence was more noticeable in the daily routine. This time was my turn to experience for the first time to stay at home, and not to be the one who is missed but to be the one who misses. And I really appreciate what my wife and daughters have felt when I am away from home. I really want them to come back and be together again. I feel sadness and I look forward for them to return. Well, I really miss them.
This weekend is “Go Denton.” We are going out to share Jesus. And as we go I am reminded of how Jesus sent out His followers. In Luke 10 Jesus sends out 72 of His people out ahead of Him in pairs. He tells them to heal the sick and to announce the kingdom of God. They do it and here’s what happens afterwards. Luke 10:17-21,
17 The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.”
18 He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
21 At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
Nowadays, Halloween is one of the most important dates in the holiday calendar; much is said about this celebration, origin of its name, its Celtic origin, Roman tradition, Cristian tradition, its expansion to North America and its roots, its globalization, its current state, components, food, trick or treat. And just as Halloween is celebrated today, so are other holidays.
I am someone that is not much into parties; actually, there are few things I celebrate. Some of these are birthdays, important life events, successes, the Lord’s day, victory over death, and Jesus’s resurrection, to mention a few. A day like today, October 31st, 1993, I finally understood who I really was at the age of 16. On that day, I decided to be born again; it was a Sunday; I still remember that day with detail; my confession, being immersed into the water, and the feeling of the Holy Spirit dwelling in me, and much more.
