The road to Resurrection Sunday is paved with good intentions. Many have spent 40 days attempting to emulate Jesus’ 40 days in the wilderness by giving up chocolate, bread, and coffee. Some have given more time to scripture, prayer, and community to find meaning in this life. Others ignored the road all together until Notre Dame began burning this Holy Week. Suddenly, everyone around the globe is focused on the gold cross remaining within the burnt shell of this great cathedral, and Christians, in name and in faith, remember to find a place on the road to Resurrection Sunday.

Today is Wednesday of Holy Week, and currently we are anticipating supercell thunderstorms with giant hail, and our road to Resurrection Sunday suddenly has more than a few bumps and obstacles to get around to remain focused on the road to Resurrection Sunday. I spent my morning run praying the hail would become rain, and the tornados would not form. Yet, hail or sunshine, we remain on the road to Resurrection Sunday. Thursday evening, many Christians around the world will gather and have a Passover feast or perhaps simply a meal together to remember Jesus’ last meal with his disciples. On Friday, we will remember the goodness of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit as God gives his son the choice to die upon the cross. The Son makes the choice to die upon the cross to redeem our Belovedness, and releases his Holy Spirit as he breathes his last breath after a cruel and humiliating sacrifice. Saturday, we remain watchful and wait as “Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James” waited for the Sabbath to end so they could visit their beloved friend’s tomb. We wait and prepare, because we know Sunday is coming. Whether you are at Leadership Training for Christ at the Anatole in Dallas, traveling to visit family for the weekend holiday, or preparing your home for visitors for Easter Dinner, remember on Saturday to practice watching and waiting for Sunday. Allow the Sabbath to truly be Sabbath despite your activities. Don’t rush on the road to Resurrection Sunday. It is enough that Sunday is coming. Jesus is risen. He is risen indeed.
