What is a baby shower to you? We all have an idea about what a baby shower is supposed to be. Some of us have seen one, others might have participated in planning one, or perhaps some have actually hosted one. Surely everybody has some ideas…maybe dreams for a future baby shower. No two baby showers are equal. I have participated in many, but nothing was like my last experience.

In my Hispanic culture this used to be an occasion that only women attended. It now involves future dads, spouses and friends. This month I went to a baby shower. In my mind, I was there only to help with whatever was needed and to take pictures to remember. But God had bigger plans for me.

That day, more than helping with little things, taking a few photos, and feeling weird in a room full of women, I became an attentive spectator. God wanted to show me the joy and happiness on the face of the new mom. It was as if she was having her best dream come true. Something she never thought would be possible. Her sister, on the other hand, had a face of admiration. I wonder what thoughts went through her mind during those almost two hours.

Moreover, I saw many other women there. I am proud to call them my sisters. They were of different ages, and all of them had gone to this activity with their hands full, with a joyful heart, with much love, and above all filled with the Spirit of God and ready to share with each other. They were really a blessing.

I think sometimes we do not pay much attention to what the Holy Spirit does and how he works within us. Do we feel his presence? Do we admire the way his influence flows and moves in our midst? Do we allow the Spirit of God to move us?

That day I saw and felt how the Holly Spirit moved and acted in every person present in that room. I saw love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance. Everything was there. It was the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22, 23).

It was just a baby shower. But on this occasion it was for someone that many of my sisters did not know. Some of them had probably seen her face occasionally, or maybe heard her name at some point. Their presence was a blessing for the mother and the baby, for the other sisters there, and most certainly for me.

The theme this year for Singing Oaks is “GO”. I can say that my sisters really WENT to the baby shower. They went to bless and be blessed (Acts 20:35).

Now I want to tell them thank you for being a blessing to this mom and her baby. I want you ladies to know that in reflecting Jesus, you were also a blessing for me. May God continue blessing you.

¿Qué es para usted un baby shower?. Todos tenemos una idea de que es un baby shower, algunos de nosotros hemos asistido, otros hemos participamos en la planeación, o quizás alguien le hiso a usted uno y con seguridad usted tiene algunas ideas o sueños para su futuro baby shower. Lo cierto es que nunca ningún baby shower es igual. Yo he participado de muchos pero ninguno como en el último.

En mi cultura hispana algo que era antes solo para mujeres ahora es también para los futuros papas, los esposos y amigos. El pasado marzo de este año estuve un baby shower. En mi mente solo para ayudar con alguna cosa que se presentara y para tomar fotos para el recuerdo. Pero Dios tenía planes más grandes para mí.

Ese día mas que ayudar en algo que la verdad fue muy poco o tomar fotos y sentirme extraño en un salón repleto de mujeres era simplemente un espectador. Dios quería mostrarme el gozo y no alegría en el rostro de la nueva mamá como si lo que estaba pasando era un sueño para ella que jamás soñó. Algo que nunca espero que pasara. Su hermana por otra parte estaba con una cara de admiración. Me pregunto que pensamientos tuvo durante esas casi dos horas.

Por otra parte mujeres que estaban allí con ellas, y de las cuales me siento orgulloso, a quienes tengo el privilegio de llamar mis hermanas, de diferentes edades, todas ellas habían llegado a esta actividad con sus manos llenas, con un corazón dispuesto, con mucho amor y sobre todo con el Espíritu de Dios para compartir unas con otras y ser de bendición.

Creo que a veces reflexionamos muy poco sobre la obra del Espíritu Santo y como actúa o trabaja. Aun mas si sentimos su presencia o si nos admiramos como fluye y se mueve el espíritu sobre nosotros o le que hacemos y mucho más si buscamos y estamos dejando que el Espíritu de Dios se mueva en nuestras vidas.

Ese día vi, y no solo vi pero también sentí como se movía y actuaba el espíritu santo en cada vida de cada persona que estaba ahí presente en el salón donde estábamos reunidos: el amor, el gozo, la paz, la paciencia, la benignidad, la bondad, la fe, la mansedumbre y templanza estaban todos ahí juntos. Si los frutos del Espíritu. Gálatas 5.22,23.

Y solamente era un baby shower, pero esta vez para alguien que muchas de mis hermanas no habían conocido anteriormente y otras que vieron su rostro o escucharon su nombre solamente en algún momento. Fue de mucha bendición para la madre y su bebe, y también para mí por todo lo que Dios quería enseñarme a través de ese momento y no solo de bendición para mi sino también para mis hermanas.

El tema de este año para Singing Oaks es “ir” hoy puedo decir que un grupo de mis hermanas fueron al Baby Shower para bendecir y no solo para esto sino también para ser bendecidas. Hechos 20.35.

Hoy quiero decirles gracias por ser de mucha bendición a esta mamá y su bebe y dejarles saber que al bendecirles a ellos también fueron de bendición en mi vida al reflejar a Jesús en sus vidas y que Dios continúe bendiciendo sus vidas.
