How Much More?

On June 13th, my second daughter Ninna Grace Tercero was born. I can’t describe the joy I felt while seeing her face for the first time. Feeling her hands and feet so small and fragile was an incredible emotion. A large portion of my heart had just been imprinted with her name and nothing and no one can erase it. And although I had already experienced this once when my first daughter Emma was born, I still trembled with emotion, had the same nerves and just tears of joy and gratitude for God ran down my cheeks.

When I see them, I realize that no matter what they do, I would give my life for them without thinking. I would take any suffering for them. I would be able to support everything that gave my strength and even more so that nothing happens to them. Even if they failed me and broke my heart, I would be there for them and extend my hand. The day they leave, my soul will break and every day a hug and a kiss will be waiting for them until they return.

And then I think that if I could do all this for them, how much more the Lord can do for us?

Chapter 7 of the Gospel of Matthew says in verses 9 through 11:

Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

And then Romans 8 verse 32 says:

He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

And verse 35:

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

Verse 38:

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Our love for our children is certainly great. But the love of God for his children is incredibly infinite.

We have the privilege of loving through our children. But even greater is the duty we have daily to thank and value the love that God gives us.

All the things that you and I can do for our children, God has already done for us. Imagine how much more he can do.
