His Will or My Will?

One of the things that we as followers of Jesus and children of God are called to do is to be connected with God, to have a personal relationship with Him; Jesus tells us: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” Mark 12.30. Upon reading this the only thing that is on my mind is how much I love God? How much do you love God? What does this mean to you? What implications does it have? How do I love God? What would be my answer to the question; do you love your wife or husband, your children, your parents, your siblings, your friends? What am I willing to be and do for them? What am I willing to be and do for God?

John 14: 21-24 “Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.” Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?” Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.”

So to love God is to do His will, to obey what He says?

Matthew 21: 28-31 “What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’ “‘I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went. “Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go. “Which of the two did what his father wanted?” “The first,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you.”

We know that Jesus did God’s will.

Not only are we called to be connected with our God and to have a personal relationship with Him but also with our neighbor, Mark 12.31 “‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

1 John 4: 19-21 “We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.”

So we know that God loves us; do we love Him? Do we love our neighbor? Can you just imagine what could happen if we do His will?

1 John 3:22 “And receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him.”

This week, how will you do God’s will and love others?
