Created to Do Good Works

“As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath”. Ephesians 2: 1-3

In this letter from Apostle Paul to the church of Ephesus I am reminded about my past; my parents were Christians since way before I was born, I grew up looking at my father’s great passion for God, his church and spreading the gospel. I can say I was one of those kids that grew up in church and thought of myself as a good person until one day I noticed I wasn’t all good and that I needed Christ urgently in my life transforming my heart and every aspect of me, I was 16 years old then.

Ever since that day until not too long ago I thought my relationship with God had its highs and lows, today I think that it has been a time of transformation, time to stop living in the cravings of this flesh and stop following its desires and thoughts.

God teaches us through His word that the result of sin is death, but God’s gift is eternal life. God gives us life and not any life, it’s an abundant life. Today, I have a life by God’s grace, a life created to do good works.

Submitting isn’t easy, what is easy is wanting to be in control and thinking we know it all, and that the solutions to our many problems are in our own opinions.

When we fully submit to God we experience transformation and the good works for which we were created. God’s name and church are exalted, His love expands in ways we cannot imagine and His spirit moves among us.

It is so easy to follow the ways of this world, as it is to ignore what happens in this world, and this happens when, as Christians, we only think about ourselves, or in our secure place or what we know as our comfort zone.

God has called us from darkness to light, from death to life, with the purpose of being participants of His work.

I ask myself, how I answer God’s calling, in my family, at church where God has brought me to for a purpose, in my community, my city, my job… It’s easy to fall in the enemy’s tricks and lies when my thoughts are not God’s thoughts, nor my ways His ways.

Today, God invites me to examine my ways with Him and to answer the question with respect to His calling.
