A New Reality

It’s hard to believe, but 112 years ago Orville and Wilbur Wright did what people had always dreamed of but had never accomplished. They flew. They took a strange, winged contraption powered with the newfangled fuel called gasoline and got the thing off the ground. It flew 852 feet in 59 seconds. When they were done they went to the nearest Telegraph office and send a telegram to their sister, Catherine. “We flew 852 feet today. We’ll be home for Christmas.” When she got the telegram she took it to the editor of the local newspaper office and showed it to him. The editor smiled and condescendingly said, “How nice. The boys will be home for Christmas.”

112 years ago he missed the message. For on that day the space-age began. In less than 70 years men would walk on the surface of the moon itself and dream of the stars. The principles and the truth made manifest by the Wright brothers would transform the world. Soon there would be jets, submarines, and rockets! 112 years ago no one had any idea that a new power had entered the world in the persons of two humble bicycle shop owners, in an out-of-the-way place called Kitty Hawk.

2000 years ago in a humble village named Bethlehem, a new Power entered the world. It was the greatest; it is the greatest transformative power to enter human history. It changed our whole understanding of what it means to be human, and why on earth we are here. That power is the incarnation of Jesus. The only question is, “Will we realize what we got?”

Knowing Jesus is what it’s all about. Day in and day out, in the small things and the large. Who He is and what that means for us is The Big Question.
