That’s the title of one of our old hymns. And one of the verses goes like this:
“This is my Fathers world,
The birds their carol’s raise
The morning light, the lily white
Declare their maker’s praise.
This is my father’s world.
He shines and all that’s fair.
In the morning grass I hear him pass.
He speaks to me everywhere.”
It is a sad thing that so many people have lost sight of that biblical truth, and adopted a secular view of reality. On the one hand there are those who see the world is nothing more than raw matter to be exploited. And on the other hand there are those for whom environmentalism is a pseudo religion. The truth is that neither a crass materialism nor pantheism honors our God, the Creator and sustainer of the world.
That’s why this year’s VBS, has, I believe, been so timely… to teach our children what Genesis 1-2 teaches: that we and our world belong to God, to be grateful for that, and to live-in that reality in relationship with Him.
“This is my father’s world,
Oh let me ne’er forget
That though the wrong seems off so strong
God is the ruler yet.”
