How to Know If You Love God

You have come to ask yourself if you love God.

Do we love God? How do I know I love Him?

Do we know that God loves us or do we believe that God loves us?

The Scriptures tell us:

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3.16

Jesus said in John 14:

“If you love me, keep my commands” v.15

“Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them” v.21

“Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me” v.23-24

“Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me” Matthew 10.37

When we love someone, we should not even try to hurt others. Let’s reflect on this…

Do I love Jesus Christ? Do I love his Church?

In what way am I hurting God or His Church? Let’s weigh a little more…

What am I not doing that is hurting others or hurting God or His Church?

Can we even hurt God? …

Nevertheless, the Scripture said: “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” Romans 5.8

The proverb says: There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to Him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

Let’s hear this again:

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” Romans 5.8

Many can say: “I love God”, but all true love must be shown; the same God in his Word tells us how to show love…

The one who loves God:

Hates evil, “Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for He guards the lives of His faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked” Psalm 97:10

Perseveres under trial, “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him” James 1:12

Keep His commandments, “If you love me, keep my commands” John 14.15

Love His neighbor, “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another” 1 John 4: 7-11

So, how do you and I love God, Jesus, His church, our neighbor?
