Let the Children Come

As Ross preached his sermon last Sunday about standing on the shoulders of giants, I looked around to find two of the past Children’s Corner Directors sitting with me. I was hired by Marcia Browder in 1995-1999. After teaching Kindergarten in Dallas for three years, I was rehired at Children’s Corner as the director by Celita Spain in 2003. These two individuals, as well as past directors, have been a huge influence on me. I will always be thankful for their teachings.

This made me reflect on my time at Children’s Corner, I can see the amazing community of people God has put in place at Singing Oaks to plant seeds in the lives of his little children and their families. Oh, the life changing events I have seen over the years (good and bad)!

Our goal at Children’s has always been to help the children know the love of Jesus and be life long learners. Most of the children that attend CCPS do not have a Church home. I remember one child in particular who did not know who Jesus was. One day I was talking to him about using soft touches with his friends and his teachers. When I asked him to tell me some of the great things God gave us hands for, he had a puzzled look on his face. He asked me, “Who is this God you keep talking about?” I wanted to grab hold of him and never let go. We talked for quite awhile about Jesus and how much he loves us. He had a wonderful Grandmother that wanted to make sure he was in a Christian School. His mother committed suicide later that year. My prayer is that we planted a seed with in that child, that he is always loved by the people in this building and LOVED by Jesus.

Just in the past few months, three of my former students (not SOCC members) have come back to see me and inquired about a job as a preschool teacher. This community is planting seeds that last a lifetime!!!

Matthew 13:23 says, “But the one who received the seed that fell on the good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty, or thirty times what was sown.”

The Ministers and Singing Oaks staff play a huge role in planting these seeds. Children’s Corner has Chapel every morning but, Mondays are special. The ministers and staff join the children in the worship center to praise God while the teachers go to the library for prayer time with Ross. This is a perfect way to start the week! The students and teachers have developed relationships with the people of Singing Oaks like never before. We get to be the hands and feet in the lives of children and the people in their lives.

“Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by[a] one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.” – 1 Corinthians 12:12-14 (NIV)
