Well, it’s election season and the vast majority of the people in this country and leaders throughout the world have refocused on our country and the impending change in leadership that is about to happen. No matter which party you favor or candidate that you are considering, change is coming. Our country will either elect our first female president or our first billionaire president. Either way, change is coming. As the world watches our unique political situation unfold through media of all types, I am left to wonder, as a follower of Christ, what is really going to change?

Straight Lines

When I was a child my family and I lived across the road from a corn/maze/cotton field. Each and every year I would watch as the tractors moved through the fields, the crop dusters fly over, and the combines pick up the crops. It was fascinating to watch as a child. But nothing made me wonder more than driving by the field and seeing row after row straight as an arrow. How and why did they do that? I wonder, have you ever driven by a corn or maze field and looked down the plant rows and wondered how in the world did they get all of those rows so straight?

Poke-Church

You have probably heard by now about a new game that has taken over smart phones over the past week; Pokémon-Go. It’s a game that uses a technology called augmented reality (AR). AR is a live direct or indirect view of the real world where certain elements are changed or supplemented. Think about the lines on the ground in your car’s backup camera or the 1st down lines that you see when watching a live pro-football game on TV. Board yet? So, as with most new video games, most of you reading this article are about to move to a new article to read, but give me one more paragraph.

Redeemed!

When you read the names, Chip and Joanna, many of you will think of the very popular reality TV show, Fixer Upper. I find it so amazing to watch that couple take “the worst house, in the best neighborhood” and make it amazing. Redeemed!

It is the sculptor’s power, so often alluded to, of finding the perfect form and features of a goddess, in the shapeless block of marble; and his ability to chip off all extraneous matter, and let the divine excellence stand forth for itself. Anonymous

I have always been amazed by sculptures. Whether made of wood, stone, or even play-doh. Somehow someone was able to see the potential for that material to be shaped into something completely different than what it was, pulling out a beauty that was hidden from the sight of others. I love watching carvers with chainsaws revealing a hidden bear or eagle in a trunk of wood. Or seeing “Ice” at the Gaylord where men and women have frozen water and shaved it into works of art. Some day I hope to be witness to some of the grand sculptures of men; the sphinx, David, Mount Rushmore, or Christ the Redeemer in Rio. These artists set out with a vision and some great materials. Through an amazing gift, were able to bring their vision into a reality where others could see and enjoy their creation.

These man-made sculptures are amazing, but are minuscule in comparison to God’s sculptures.
